As the Concord Academy community settles into the excitement of the first few weeks of school, talk of athletic competitions can be heard all around CA. The fall athletic season is a new student’s first exposure to CA sports, so the promise of upcoming games is nothing short of thrilling.

There are a plethora of teams for students to tryout for in the fall season. Starting with the interscholastic team sports, CA offers Girls JV and Varsity Volleyball, Girls Varsity Field Hockey, Girls JV and Varsity Soccer, and Boys Thirds, JV, and Varsity Soccer. Furthermore, CA has a Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country program, and despite the fact that the teams race separately, they have coed practices!

Some students may instead choose to engage with an intramural sport, such as IM Tennis, IM Volleyball, IM Pickleball or IM Squash, which meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Others may decide to take one of the many PE courses CA offers, such as Hiking Concord, Running, Individualized Strength Training, Strength and Conditioning, or Fitness. Additionally, if one wants to get involved in team sports but does not wish to compete, they have the option to apply for the Team Manager position of any team sport. The exciting fall interscholastic season began on Friday, September 8.

As engaging as these sports are, one can not forget about the after-school fall season performing arts opportunities! Many talented CA students auditioned for Sense and Sensibility, this years fall mainstage. Rehearsals took place concurrently with sports, and the mainstage performance will take place on Friday, November 10, and Saturday, November 11. For all of the dancers at CA, there is also Dance Technique and the Concord Academy Dance Project, the latter of which will be having a performance on Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28. Some students are also in tech crew for the fall season to help out behind the scenes in these performances. All of the aforementioned performing arts opportunities earn a student an athletic credit.

Regardless of which of these offerings students chose to participate in—whether it be competing in riveting interscholastic sports, engaging with IM and PE offerings, or taking advantage of the performing arts—the CA community hopes that all enjoy the opportunities that the fall season has to offer!
