Whether it be a craving for the donuts or refreshers, a good amount of Concord Academy freshmen are thoroughly in love with Dunkin’ Donuts. The phrase “wanna go to Dunkin” must be said dozens of times a day at CA, just about whenever people don’t like lunch in the stu-fac, are hungry during a free block, or want something after school. This begs the question—how much are we paying at Dunkin’?

To answer this age-old question, a poll was sent out surveying freshmen on their trips to the Dunkin’ Donuts in Concord. Based on the responses of 36 freshmen, the frequency of visits of this sample was applied to the entire class of ’28. Average spending per visit was then determined based on all responses. Only in very few cases could other factors such as high frequency and low spending possibly have affected average spending. This was combined with the above frequency of visits to determine weekly costs.

Ultimately, we are making Dunkin’ an average of $5.19 per visit. This adds up to approximately $698.41 per week. Please keep in mind that this is heavily approximated and comes from a person who has not taken Statistics yet. It’s still truly astonishing.

This question of the freshmen’s spending at Dunkin’ inspired a comparison of this weekly cost to CA’s tuition. If just the freshman class kept up with this current trend, a boarder’s tuition could be paid off in 2.34 years and a day student’s tuition would be paid in 1.88 years for the amount of $78,610 and $62,960 respectively. This mind-blowing statistic has promoted a consensus from people who have given feedback on this article that we should limit our spending.

Zooming in on specific opinions from current freshmen, Milo Dubois ’28 shared, “[Dunkin’ is] a good place to get a donut or coffee if you have a free, [though] mediocre at best.” In comparison, class representative Emily He ’28 stated, “[Dunkin is] a cheap alternative to Starbucks. [It has] more food options [although] fewer drink options.” This variety of opinions corresponds with the surprising figure of 16.7% of the 36 respondents having never gone to the local Dunkin’.

Other conclusions from this poll include around 75% of respondents saying they felt that their visits to Dunkin’ had increased. A significantly repeated reason was the close and easy access students have.
