Theo von Gottberg ’24 is a Senior day student from Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is involved throughout the Concord Academy community, be it sports, arts, or clubs. Theo contributes most as a top wrestler, leading the wrestling team as co-captain while adding two EIL second place finishes and one championship. Theo also plays lacrosse and was named an all-EIL selection, and is a member of the clarinet ensemble. Additionally, he also runs the prestigious Investment Club as well as Card Game Club, though the latter’s existence is questionable.

Theo chose Concord Academy primarily for its open learning environment; hundreds of course offerings mean there is an array of interesting classes to choose from, and dedicated teachers further enhance a positive classroom experience. These same core elements of CA still make up Theo’s favorite things about the school, though he has also made more use of the beloved extended campus than he initially anticipated (especially frequent trips to Dunkin).

Despite being able to drive, Theo took the commuter rail for three years and remains a train kid at heart. Several dozen day students still take it every day, and Theo views it as a very worthwhile experience despite the occasional delay or slowdown. He recommends taking the commuter rail to anyone with the option, and advises students to take the early train and get work done after arriving on campus. In the classroom, Theo has honed his interest in science through Advanced Chemistry. He has taken three semesters of the elective, and they have been his favorite classes at CA. While Theo has enjoyed most classes here, chemistry stands out because of the engaging labs and unique material.

Between multiple sports, clarinet, and Investment Club, Theo contributes immensely to the CA community in and out of the classroom. He has greatly enjoyed his four years here, and looks forward to enjoying his last months here at CA as a senior.
