Singer Charli XCX has taken the world by storm with her recent album, Brat. This album has received attention from people all around the world for its unique, electronic sound.
Brat is Charli XCX’s seventh and most successful studio album. The artist now has two Grammy nominations under her belt and is creating an empire for herself. Most known for her reinvention of pop music, Charli outdid herself on this new album. Kelley Heyer, a content creator from New York, created a dance for Charli’s song “Apple” which blew up on TikTok. Millions of people around the world have posted videos of themselves dancing to this song, further increasing the popularity of this album. Charli also coined the word “brat”, influencing hundreds of trends.
The album itself relays the message of embracing imperfection and being at peace with chaos. Most apparent in the track “So I” which perfectly captures the idea of regret and reminding yourself that it is completely fine to take a moment for yourself, while still following the pop-techno theme of the album. The first and last tracks on the album, “360” and “365,” provide the perfect full circle ending to the album. “360” starts the album off with an upbeat tone, as Charli celebrates confidence and having fun. The following songs take the listener on a rollercoaster journey of accepting your insecurities. Finally, the album ends on “365,” taking the listener back to the concept of a never ending party, demonstrating the confidence that was slowly building up throughout the album using the beat of the music.
Brat is an extremely well thought out album, each lyric and note intentional. The success of this album is a direct reflection of the hard work that Charli XCX put into it. By the end of the summer, almost everyone was aware of the songs and trends of the album. Overall, this album had zero skips and was on repeat all summer long.
