On April 26, Concord Academy hosted its Eastern Independent League rival, the Bancroft School, at Moriarty Campus for the annual Spring Cup event. For the third consecutive year, CA claimed the ultimate trophy spectacularly, with all five competing varsity teams—Girls tennis, girls lacrosse, boys tennis, boys lacrosse and baseball—being victorious.

Sam Lutzker ’27 missed the fan bus that afternoon. Still insistent on supporting his athlete friends, he walked all the way to the Moriarty campus from Main Street. His long trek under the hot sun was worth it though, as he watched the CA athletes put on an absolute show. Sam recalls being a part of an impressive gathering of students, parents, and onlookers; the amount of support shown toward competing students is perhaps another noteworthy victory. Sam described the event as being quite similar to athletic meets, except that the higher stakes of the outcome made for a tenser and more exciting atmosphere. Indeed, the Spring Cup once again demonstrated the community’s robust sense of competitiveness, sportsmanship, and school pride.

The Boys Varsity Tennis team, continuing their stellar season, swept their Bancroft rivals 5-0. Star player Kefan Cui ’25 said that the team has been undefeated for the past two years, and is currently on the trajectory of maintaining that astounding record for this season. Kefan added that the team is striving for a NEPSAC championship win this year.

Girls Varsity Lacrosse walked away with a comfortable 14-4 victory. Anna Hutter ’25 commented that even though one of the captains, Lynn Lewis ’24, was unable to play due to an injury, the team still played extremely cohesively. When asked about highlights of the game, Anna praised Bancroft’s goalie for her outstanding performance. Anna added that she has high hopes for the GVL team, particularly with playing under the guidance of the new coach this season, Sophia Guerriero. Lynn was similarly optimistic, “We are hoping to give some well-established teams a run for their money later in the season.”

The Spring Cup trophy, yet again held in CA’s collection, represents not only the success of the spring athletics program but also the commitment and passion that CA athletes exhibit during every practice. It is also the unwavering support from friends and family, which makes the games that much more worth winning. When asked about what she thought of the event, Sue Johnson, the Director of Athletics at CA said, "It was a great day for CA athletics as well as an awesome showing of community support for our five competing teams." What a fantastic way to arrive at the end of the season!

Go green!
